| Arario whose challenge and ambition
has brought new vitality to the Korean art world since its opening
in 2002, inaugurates a new gallery in Sokyuk-dong, Seoul, on
the 6th April 2006 after it did in Cheonan in December 2002
and in Beijing in December 2005. Sokyuk-dong crowded with Korean
large-scale galleries is the center not only of Korean contemporary
art but also of Korean traditional culture as a middle place
between Insa-dong and Samcheong-dong, both of which have preserved
the tradition of Korean art. By establishing a new place
in Sokyuk-dong, Arario intends to get out of the regional
boundary of Cheonan and to take a further step to promote
the internationalization of Korean art. It has already secured
a bridgehead to rank with the world art in Beijing in 2005,
and the new gallery, Arario Seoul is expected to fulfill the
role of realizing its goal in a more concrete way. Since Arario
has devoted to fostering many exclusive artists and helping
them enter the international stage as its primary mission,
Arario Seoul also plans to open the door to established Korean
artists who have their own unique visual language as well
as young emerging artists. It will also introduce many artists
of Asian countries including China and India and develop their
potentiality so that they would become world-renowned Asian
artists.
Moreover, Arario Seoul will invite the artists who actively
work in the center of the world art scene like New York, London,
and etc. in order to participate in art of today.
Remodelling a public bath situated in the gallery street
in Sagan-dong, Seoul, between Pungmun GirlsĄ¯ High School and
Jeongdok Library, Arario Seoul is a two storied building consisting
of a exhibition room of 3.3 height and 80 pyung(264 square
meter) on the first floor and a smaller one on the second
floor. These two exhibition place with different atmosphere
will provide optimum spaces for displaying the works both
of young and established artists.
With a firm belief that a combination of artists, buyers,
collectors, and good place can generate infinite energy for
the development of Korean art, Arario Seoul now opens the
stage for it. By drawing upon this energy, it will concentrate
itĄ¯s efforts so that Korean art can extend to the world beyond
Asia.
